It’s a plot with intriguing issues touched upon, including mortality, the class system and that knowing how much time we have left to live can affect our judgments. Living in this scary world is Will (Justin Timberlake), a poor young man who is given the priceless sum of more than a century of time by a stranger who tells him he’s 105 years old before committing suicide. The result is a world where time has replaced money with a job paying 24 hours and a cup of coffee costing four minutes.

When someone reaches the age of 25, they’re fitted with a wrist timer that counts down to their next birthday, when they’ll die. Set in the near future, the film’s neat premise is that, with the ageing gene identified, the government has developed a clever means of population control. A terrific storyline is squandered in Justin Timberlake’s new sci-fi thriller that throws up all manner of intriguing ideas – but then doesn’t know what to do with them.
